At Berlin's Love Parade, I saw dozens of truckloads of dancers cutting through the crowds of excited technoids amassed on the city's main thoroughfares. I also saw street vendors stationed wherever strategic, selling the glittery T-shirts, fluorescent water pistols and firecrackers that served as party weapons for our demonstrators. I saw young men and women for whom the need to party seemed so strong that they advanced like an army of warriors ready to defend love with weapons in hand. The party had become a huge scene of love as well as a huge scene of war.
